Flip Through a Family Reunion Genealogy Book

Flip Through a Family Reunion Genealogy Book

Late last year, I had the opportunity to make a family history book for a group of my relatives who were gathering without me. Although I have a full family tree notebook for that side of my family, I knew that they weren't going to want to flip through all 1,500+ pages while they were casually getting together.

The nice thing about building digital notebooks is that it's relatively easy to pick and choose the pages you want to print. I was able to make a "highlights" book for the reunion that just focused on the most recent generations and didn't include every single record. I had it printed and spiral-bound at our local FedEx so it would travel well and I'm happy to say that everyone was very pleased to have something so manageable that they could enjoy and chat about.

Don't forget to break your work up into bite-sized pieces when you're sharing with family members who aren't that familiar with genealogy. As much as we love (and need!) all of the records, not everyone will share your enthusiasm. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that your readers enjoy and actually absorb all of the hard work you've done (with the option to have access to the full notebook, of course!).
